BASINGSTOKE Town will hope to start 2016 as they ended 2015 with a victory, when they travel to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday in the National League South.

The Dragons signed off last year with well deserved 1-0 win over Hayes and Yeading at the Camrose.

They has hopped to build on this success last weekend, when Sutton United were due to visit Hampshire, but heavy rain caused the game to be postponed.

This has now been rearranged for Tuesday February 17 kick-off 7.45pm.

This Saturday Town will be on a revenge mission against Eastbourne Borough as the Sussex side beat them 5-1 back in September, with four goals coming off the hour mark.

At that point of the season Eastbourne were playing really well and among the title chasers, but since then their campaign has hit the skids and they have slide down the table and are now just above the relegation zone.

They have just one win from their last 10 league games and after the big loss at the Camrose it is time for pay back time from Town.

Town boss Michael Gilkes is looking forward to the game and said: “They were the better team when we last played them, but I don’t think it was a 5-1 game.

"We have a strong squad with plenty of competition for places and for us every game is important and we want there points.”

Gilkes is looking for a belated Christmas present this week as he is hoping he will be able to extend the loan period of Reading centre back Dominic Hyam.

The 21-year-old scored on his debut for Town in their last away win at Bishop' Stortford in early December.

Gilkes was expected to hear if the defender will remain at Town yesterday afternoon as the Gazette went to press.
