BASINGSTOKE Town’s search for their first away win of the season continues after they lost 5-0 at Concord Rangers in the National League South.

The Dragons who put up such a brave fight the week before in the FA Cup first round at Cambridge, shipped five goals in the second half.

The visitors made just one change to their starting line-up as new loan signing Guiseppe Sole replaced Shaun McAuley.

The striker is no stranger to the Camrose having had two previous loan spells at the club from Woking.

The first time was in 2005/06 when he helped the Dragons avoid relegation and he returned in season 2011/12.

In total the 27-year-old forward has scored over 100 goals for the Cards.

However, he did not have a dream return to the club, but did have Town’s best chance in the opening 45 minutes.

At the end Aaron Howe who had a superb game at Cambridge was called upon to save with his legs to deny Lewis Taaffe an opening goal, whilst a good shot from Joe Gardiner deflected over the bar.

The Beachboys were quickly out of the blocks in the second half as Taaffe was chipped from behind and Steve Crawley made no mistake with the spot kick to make it 1-0 after 48 minutes.

Before Town had time to recover, they found themselves 2-0 down as a lovely cushion header from Gardner sent Crawley away to score with a lovely lob.

The home side were now in control and Cawley’s cross saw Taaffe head just wide as the Essex side looked for a third goal.

It arrived on 67 minutes as Ben Greenhalgh’s 18-yard strike hit the net and soon after the same player tried again, but Howe this time pushed the ball around the post.

Another penalty saw Concord add a fourth after James White was pulled back in the box and Cawley made no mistake again from the spot as he completed his hat-trick.

The home side were still not finished as Max Cornhill scored a lovely solo goal to complete the 5-0 rout.

The Dragons will not have long to lick their wounds as they travel to Truro City on Tuesday night.

The Cornish team slipped to ninth in the table, after their home game with Hemel Hempstead was abandoned due to a floodlight failure on Saturday.
