BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow hasn’t given up hope of adding a couple more players to his squad before the start of the season.

The Dragons boss has 17 players at his disposal but would like to add a bit more depth to his squad ahead of the National League South campaign, which begins next weekend.

Just one player not currently signed on at the club, winger Harrison Gilkes, featured in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, but Bristow insists that he remains on hunt for new blood.

“We have got more than a week until the start of the season and are still on the look-out,” he said. “If a player comes up and we are interested, we will look at that, but if we start the season with the current squad, I’m fine with that.

“Harrison Gilkes has still got a few irons in the fire but we like him and are hoping to sort something out with him over the next few days. He offers us something different.”

Town have played two tough pre-season games in the last week, losing 2-1 to National League Aldershot Town on Saturday and 3-1 to League Two outfit Wycombe on Tuesday night.

Town complete their pre-season campaign with a trip to Ryman League Premier Division side Leatherhead on Saturday (3pm).

Bristow said: “Leatherhead are a level below us, but they try to play the right way.

“It will be a good test for us and will give us the chance to look at a couple of things.”
