BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club ladies first team continued their push for promotion with a 3-2 win in London against Wanderers.

The visitors opened the scoring as Roxy O’Dea scored with a short corner strike.

Basingstoke doubled their advantage after Lisa Scarborough converted another well-earned short corner.

The home side pulled a goal back before the break, but Catriona Bausor restored the two-goal lead after the interval with a well-worked team goal.

Wanderers scored their second 10 minutes from time, but good defence from the visitors made sure of the victory.

The second team further cemented their place at the top of the table as they ran out easy 4-1 winners over visiting Havant.

The fourth team secured a 0-0 draw with New Forest, while Petersfield enjoyed a double over Basing-stoke as they beat the thirds 3-1 and fifths 7-0.

The men’s first team travelled to in-form Bournemouth looking to build on last week’s win over Southampton.

The visitors took an early lead from Mark Smith, but two penalty strokes had the home side 3-1 ahead at the break.

Bournemouth added a fourth, before Basingstoke started their great comeback as Dave Stones scored.

Soon after, Grant Rouse capitalised on a defensive mix up to reduce the deficit to 4-3.

With just minutes left on the clock, Jed Mills fired a ball into the Bournemouth D and top-scorer Dean Record made no mistake as he deflected the ball first time past the Bourne-mouth goalkeeper, with the game ending in a thrilling 4-4 draw.

The men’s second team enjoyed a 5-3 victory over visiting Southampton as Ben Shaughnessy scored four times and Paul Hadley netted the other.

The third team enjoyed a 6-1 away win against Winch-ester, while the fourths lost 3-1 at Southampton and the Vikings were beaten 4-2 by Bournemouth.

The fifth team led visiting Poole 2-0 at the interval on their way to an impressive 4-2 victory.
