HAMPSHIRE FA have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into events that occurred during last Tuesday’s Hampshire Senior Cup tie between Basingstoke Town and Tadley Calleva at The Soccer AM Stadium.

Tadley produced a major upset, knocking holders Basingstoke out on penalties following a 2-2 draw, but the game was somewhat overshadowed by crowd trouble.

A series of pitch invasions led to police being called to the ground, while there have also been reports of flares being lit inside the stadium. One arrest was made, a 21-year-old man from Tadley getting a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly.

Writing in the Gazette last week, Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow accused Tadley fans of subjecting goalkeeper Kieran Greene to “abuse and behaviour that is no longer welcome at football matches.”

Gary Pratt, Hampshire FA’s operations manager for competitions, confirmed that information picked up from various sources has been passed on and that an investigation is under way. Hampshire FA will make no further comment until the investigation has been completed.

Tadley were without a game on Saturday, but return to Wessex League Division One action on Saturday, hosting Ringwood, who sit one place below them in the table.
