Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow talking after the win said: "They made it difficult for us early on playing five across the back.
"Once we got the goal from the set piece the game opened up and we could have scored more today, but I am happy with the 2-0 win and another clean sheet."
Next up for the Dragons is a trip to local rivals Farnborough on Monday (kick-off 3pm), who enjoyed their first win of the season on Saturday 2-1 at Wealdstone.
Bristow is likely to have to shuffle his side due to a couple of injuries in the Hayes game. Rob Rice suffered a cut eye and Simon Dunn a dead leg so both are douftful for the trip.
Bristow said: "We are playing well at the moment and I hope we can carry on our winning run at Farnborough."
