BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies won the North Hants Women’s Cup for the third successive season, beating Fleet Town Ladies 2-1 after extra-time in the final at Longmeadow on Sunday.
Fleet play their football at a lower level than Basingstoke but they made a good start, Joanne Harfield forcing Erin Davis into two decent saves.
However, it was the holders who took the lead on 37 minutes, Tracy Jones side-footing home Carla Mitchell’s cross. They kept up the pressure after the break, with Sian Wylie twice testing the Fleet ’keeper and having a goal ruled out for a foul, while Mitchell headed just wide.
Fleet levelled against the run of play on 73 minutes, Harfield beating Davis one-on-one to force extra-time.
It took Basingstoke just four minutes of the extra period to find a winner, Mitchell cutting in from the left and firing home an angled drive to win the cup for her side.
Basingstoke return to league action on Sunday, hosting Gosport Borough.
