Ryan Golesworthy with his trophy at Fleming Park

MINI tennis performance player Ryan Golesworthy has added another trophy to his ever-growing collection.

The six-year-old, who is a pupil at Buryfields Infant School in Odiham, won his third mini red performance under-eight tournament at Fleming Park, in Eastleigh, on Saturday, February 16.

The event was part of the 2007-08 Hampshire Winter Tennis League series, which is shared with Alton.

Thirty-six players competed in the tournament, with Golesworthy the eventual winner, while Jordan Mosquera was third in the boys' event and Rohith Manikonda fifth overall.

Golesworthy was also third in the mini red event held at St George's Hill, in Weybridge.

He has now played three of the five tournaments in the Hampshire series so far, being placed second and third in Alton before the Eastleigh win.

Golesworthy, who attended the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Regional Talent ID Camp at Bath University in December, has been selected to attend a second camp at the university next month.

The Regional Talent ID days are for promising players who have been identified within the South West Region.

The training is a development of the ongoing support for players by the technical services department under the new structure for British tennis.

Golesworthy was selected as a member of Totally Tennis' mini tennis red performance squad earlier this year, after his potential as an up-and-coming young player was identified.

He now plays twice a week in squad sessions, as well as having three individual lessons with coach Mike Gill, who accompanied him to the talent camp at Bath and his recent tournaments.

As head of mini tennis, Gill has a particular interest in the younger players at the club and he is working with Hampshire LTA, whose performance coach visits the club fortnightly to develop the talented players who play in the red and orange performance squads.

Gill said of Golesworthy's latest success: "Ryan played really well in Eastleigh, again showing just what a talented young player he is.

"The Totally Tennis team of players all played well, with finishes in the top five. I am looking forward to accompanying Ryan and his parents to the second talent ID day at Bath."
