MARK Swinscoe retained his Basingstoke and District Tennis League individual title, beating Perveez Mirza in the final.

Overton Lawn Tennis Club man Swinscoe went ahead early in the first set at Old Basing Lawn Tennis Club and, while both players produced some entertaining tennis, he held on to win 6-2.

Perveez (Waverley LTC) toiled hard in the second set but to no avail, Swinscoe proving too strong as he took that 6-0.

The men’s doubles final saw Kelvin Wilcox and Paul Rattue (Oakley LTC) face Mirza and Malcolm McPhail (Waverley LTC).

It was evenly balanced in the early games with Wilcox and Rattue taking a close first set 6-2.

They then took control of the second set with some excellent passing shots, winning it by 6-0 to claim the title.

The ladies’ doubles saw youngsters Kelsey Mosqura and Amaarah Mirza (Waverley LTC) up against Sharon De Botte and Emma Barnes (Totally Tennis).

Both pairs played some good tennis in the opening two sets, with Mosqura and Mirza taking the first 6-3 before De Botte and Barnes fought back hard to win the second 7-5.

With both pairs having given their all, the decisive set was won 6-0 by Mosqura and Mirza.

The final event of the day was the mixed doubles, which saw the father and daughter pairing of Perveez and Amaarah Mirza come up against defending champions Swinscoe and Lucy Taylor (Overton LTC).

With Taylor a solid partner, Mark showed lots of control in his shots, producing good backhands down the line, steady forehands and excellent serving. Swinscoe and Taylor won the match 6-1, 6-0 to retain their title.
