Thrilling end to the championship race

IN the Grand Finals of the Junior and Mini Champions Races, Miles Bromilow was the overall winner of the Junior title, Aaron Dawson won the Red event and Chris Bundhoo was the Orange event winner.

After months of matches, the summer finals saw the top players competing to become overall champions in their respective age groups.

In the Junior competition Bromilow defeated Ellis Wyles 4-1, 4-1 in their semi-final match.

In the other semi-final match Liam Hignett and Alex Dawson were on level pegging with one set each with Dawson winning the first 5-3 and Hignett coming back to take the second 4-2 before Dawson had to retire in the tie-break.

In the final Bromilow played well to beat Hignett 5-3, 4-2 to take the title of Junior Champion In the Mini Champions Race it was the turn of the younger brothers and sisters with Aaron Dawson beating Isla Hignett 10-7 in the final to take the Red Champion title.

In the Orange, the leader board scores along with the finals day matches were |combined to get the overall champion.

Brothers Chris and Sam Bundhoo competed alongside Jed Voysey and Alexei Studd for the title.

Chris defeated brother Sam 5-2 and Studd 4-1 but lost to Voysey 5-3. Voysey also defeated Sam 4-1 and Studd 4-2.

Studd beat Sam 5-3 in their match. Overall Chris was announced the winner an Orange champion.

Coach James McIntosh said: “Both the Junior and Mini Performance Races series have been a great success, especially as they give our younger talented players regular competitive opportunities.

“The experience of playing in tournaments is vital to player development and overall success in the future.”

The Race series are designed for the players who play in the mini and junior performance programme to give them regular internal competitive opportunities, gaining points for each event entered and depending on where they finish. The top players were then invited to the grand finals.
