BASINGSTOKE’S Josh Goodall and Surrey’s Chris Eaton chalked up their fifth doubles title of the season with victory on the grass courts of Manchester on Friday in the AEGON GB Pro-Series.
The Brits who the previous week had a tough draw at Wimbledon and went out in the first round of the Men’s doubles the eventual finalists for the second year running Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau.
In Manchester, it was a different story for the pair as they won the final beating Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri and Frenchman Albano Olivetti taking the first set thanks to the only break of serve in the whole match 6-4 and then holding their nerve in the tie-break winning it 7-3.
Earlier in the competition, they saw off fellow Brits Maniel Bains and Marcus Willis 6-3, 6-4 in round one and then Lewis Burton and Neal Skupski 6-3, 5-7 and 10-6 in the deciding tie break.
In the semi-finals they beat seeded pair New Zealander Marvin Barker and Ireland’s Sam Barry 6-4, 6-4 to set up their final appearance and another title.
In the singles event at the same tournament, Goodall made it to the last eight before being beaten 6-4, 6-2 by the eventual winner and number one seed Jaziri who has a world ranking over 140 places above the Basingstoke-born player.
In the previous two rounds Goodall beat countryman Lewis Burton 6-3, 6-2 and German Richard Waite 6-4, 6-2.
