BASINGSTOKE’S Josh Goodall continued his recent good form on the grass courts of Britain as he was beaten finalist in both the singles and doubles in a Futures tournament at Frinton-on-Sea.
The previous week he had enjoyed a double success at Ilkley and came very close to repeating it.
In the singles event the British number seven saw off fellow countryman Marcus Willis (6-2, 7-5), before beating Indian Divij Sharan (6-7, 6-2, 6-3) and then British Davis Cup reserve Alexander Ward (6-4, 7-6).
That saw him to the final, where unfortunately the Basingstoke-born player lost 7-6, 6-2 to Daniel Cox.
In the doubles events, Goodall, pictured, teamed up with fellow Brit Chris Eaton and they cruised into the final with straight sets wins over British pair David Rice/Sean Thornley (7-5, 6-3) and American duo Blake Strode/Christian Welte (6-4, 6-4).
In the final, they faced Anglo-American pair Tim Bradshaw and James Ludlow and, having lost the opening set 6-4, the all Brit pairing then stormed back to level the match thanks to a second set tie-break victory.
However, in the deciding set tie-break Goodall and Eaton narrowly lost out 10-7.
