BASINGSTOKE tennis ace Josh Goodall missed out on a chance to appear at Queens Club for the fourth year running when he was knocked out of the qualifying tournament on Saturday.
The British number four went out after a third-set tie break, 7-2, to Paraguay’s Raman Delgado (6-3, 3-6, 7-6).
The South American, ranked 160 places above Goodall in the world, also failed to make it to the London grass court tournament where Andy Murray will start the defence of his crown tomorrow, when he lost to another Brit, Dan Evans 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Goodall was beaten by Giles Muller at last year’s Aegon Championship having faced Lleyton Hewitt and Jo-Winifred Tsonga in previous years.
Basingstoke-born Goodall last week was in action at the Nottingham Challenger tournament, having been given a wild card into the event.
Last year he reached the last four of the grass court tournament, but last week fell in the first round to another wild card entry, fellow Brit James Ward 6-4, 6-4.
He had better luck in the doubles with Jamie Delgado as they reached the semi-finals before losing to Britain’s top pair and number one seeds, Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski, 6-3, 6-3.
To get to the last four they had a walk over against French pair Arnaud Clement and Adrian Mannarino and then beat eastern Europeans Ricardas Berankis and Andis Juska 6-3, 6-4.
Next week, Goodall will be in action at Eastbourne ahead of Wimbledon.
