BASINGSTOKE tennis ace Josh Goodall will face Giles Muller from Luxembourg in the first round of this year's Aegon Championship, which starts today on the green courts at the Queen's Club.
The British number three comes into the event after his best showing so far this year, after he reached the semi-finals of the Aegon Trophy on the green in Nottingham beating a number of higher ranked players on the way to the last four.
In fact Goodall ranked in world 217, was set to meet Muller in the second round in the Lace City tournament, until the number one seed ranked 80 in the world, went down in straight sets to Edouard Roger-Vasselin from France in his first game.
The Basingstoke-born player saw off the Frenchmen 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 to add to his first round scalp of American Scoville Jenkins 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.
Goodall's quarter-final clash was a lot simpler as he beat India's Prakash Amritraj, before being beaten on Saturday by number five seed Serbia's Ilia Bozoljac 7-6, 6-3.
It ended a great run of results for the Brit who won three matches to qualify for the tournament including one of the current Wimbledon junior champion Grigor Dimitrov.
This will have given him a great boast ahead of the newly named Aegon Championships at Queens, where last year he put up a valiant effort before going out in the first round to Lleyton Hewitt 6-4, 6-4.
