BASINGSTOKE tennis ace Josh Goodall is determined to make sure he keeps his place in the Great Britain Davis Cup team.
The 23-year-old suffered a disappointing debut last weekend as he lost both his singles games in the 4-1 defeat against the Ukraine.
That means that GB now face a home relegation play-off tie against Poland in September to remain in Europe/Africa Group 1 in September and the Basingstoke-born player would love to play his part.
During last weekend’s tie at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, the new British number two had the added pressure of leading the team after Andy Murray was forced out with a virus.
Goodall said: “Playing for my country is something I have always wanted to do and having a taste of it now I want to do it again.
“The atmosphere in Scotland was amazing and maybe the pressure got to me. It was very disappointing to lose both my matches, but I can learn from the experience and come back stronger.”
Goodall is currently ranked a career high 191 in the world and will look to improve that even further during the summer, which hopefully will include appearances at Queens and Wimbledon.
However, his next two tournaments are in Thailand, starting in Bangkok and the Basingstoke-born player said: “The next Davis Cup tie is in September, so I have to make sure I have a good summer and show I am playing well when they pick the team, as I want to be a part of it.”
