BASINGSTOKE tennis ace Josh Goodall suffered the disappointment of losing Great Britain’s opening Davis Cup match on Friday at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.

The British number two battled away, before going down in straight sets 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 to Illya Marchenko.

The British number two making his Davis Cup debut, fought his way back from 3-0 down to take the first set to force a tie-break, only to lose it 7-2.

The second set followed the same story, with Goodall fighting his way back from 4-0 down this time and to led the tie-break 5-3, before losing four straight points and the set.

The third set saw no breaks with Goodall saving five match points to force a third tie-break, before losing that 7-5.
