SILCHESTER tennis ace Hannah Smith's great summer on the tennis courts has continued.

At the Road to Wimbledon staged at the Gloucester Lawn Tennis Club. Smith won the Girls 14 under South West regional group tournament, qualifying for the finals.

These are to be held at the All England Club Wimbledon in August, against representatives from other British regions as well as China, India and Hong Kong.

In Amsterdam, Smith competed in the Amstel Park Tennis Europe event, partnering Harriet Eyles.

The British pair battled through four rounds reaching the 16 under Girls Doubles finals, beating the French pairing Costaz and Devaux 6-3 6-2, Dutch duo Polman and Peeters 6-3 6-1 and Belgian and Russian partnership Liegeois and Retunskaya in the semi-finals 6-2 6-3.

In the final, but lost to the number one seeds Steur and Van Den Broek from Germany 6-7 5-7.

Competing for her School, Smith helped Talbot Heath win the Aberdare Cup Team Tennis National Schools finals.

In a tough weekend of tennis against 16 finalists, they beat Pocklington School and Wilmslow High School both 8-0.

This led to a semi-final clash with big rivals Culford School, after six tense matches (four singles and two doubles) the two teams were tied 3-3.

So the semi was decided by a 10 point match play tie break, Smith and fellow school friend and former Popley player Esther Adeshina teamed up for this doubles shoot-out.

They fought there way back from 6-4 down to level things at 8-8 before finally taking the victory 10-8 for a place in the final against reigning champions Queenswood School.

The final was again another close event with Talbot Heath leading 3-1 after the first four singles matches and eventually winning it 4-2.

Smith has another busy month ahead, competing in the Nike Junior International event held in Bournemouth, before heading to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton to compete in the AEGON National Premier Teams finals for her club West Hants, then travels to Germany to compete in a series of three Tennis Europe events.
