BASINGSTOKE tennis ace Dean Cooper-Kirby enjoyed a great time in tournaments played at Chiswick and Winchester.

He was a double winner in Winchester at an under-14 grade 3 event. In the singles, fourth seed Cooper-Kirby won the title beating second and third seeds in his final two games.

Having started with victories over Christian Yeates 6-1, 6-1 and Louis Bowden 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

The Basingstoke player won his semi-final over Joshua Parsons with another third set tie-break 10-5 after the players swapped 6-4 sets win. In the final Cooper-Kirby beat Oliver Fernandez 6-4, 6-0.

The Basingstoke teenager then teamed up with Aycan Haneef for the doubles event. They beat James Johnson/Alexis Paris 4-1, 4-1 in the final four and then beat Bowden and Aaron Dawson 5-3, 4-0 to take the trophy.

At Chiswick, Cooper-Kirby won an under-14 Grade 4 and under-18 Grade 4 singles events.

In his under-18 success the unseeded player did not drop a single set. He beat Mathieu Betto 5-3, 4-0 in the final after he enjoyed wins over Adam Wilkinson 4-1, 4-2 and Lawrence Woodford 4-0, 4-2.

The Basingstoke player was also a member of the Hampshire team, along with fellow class mate at Sherfield School Aaron Dawson, which have qualified for the Aegon Cup National finals.

Five of the six Hampshire players train at the Portsmouth Tennis Academy.
