PLAYERS of all ages enjoyed a fantastic day of tennis at Basingstoke Waverley Lawn Tennis Club as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s Great British Tennis Weekend initiative.

The free one day event kicked off, at 10.30am, with junior and mini tennis coaching for children.

Junior coach Tsvet Brantinov assisted by daughter Ellie entertained the children with fun court games and tennis play.

All participants for their efforts were awarded a commemorative Wimbledon Andy Murray poster and LTA wristbands.

Next the adult coaching, newcomers to tennis with a passion to emulate the recent British Wimbledon successes, but this time on the grass courts of Waverley.

Within the free hour of coaching run by head Coach and event organiser Perveez Mirza, they gained confidence in playing forehands, backhands, and serve.

If that was not enough, by popular choice, the session ended with a trick-shot! Plenty for all to take away and practice.

Hardly breaking for lunch, new players gathered for the 1pm Open doubles competition.

Players of mixed ability were organised into balanced pairs and enjoyed a full afternoon of grass court tennis.

Waverley witnessed players, leaping for smashes, hitting heavy serves and snapping volleys.

Competitive and fun tennis this good is rarely seen and was hugely appreciated by the cheering crowd.

Waverley saw 50 plus players throughout the day, a great achievement and success for the town centre club.
