RYAN Golesworthy’s latest tennis tournament win came in the Maidenhead Open under-14 Boys tournament.

He won the tournament with a great display as he did not drop a single set on his way to victory in Berkshire.

In his first match the Odiham ace played through the rain to beat Oliver Broadhurst 6-1, 6-2.

The weather and rain delays meant the tournament was then extended with the finals moved to the weekend.

In the quarter-final Golesworthy played a super game as he beat Sebastien Muller 6-0, 6-0.

This set up a the semi-final showdown against Berkshire’s Elkan Dillon and Golesworthy came out on top 6-2, 6-1.

The Maidenhead Open final was against Oxfordshire’s George Slater and after a close set which ended 6-4, the Odiham ace took over cruising to victory winning the second set 6-0.

Golesworthy is the Hampshire number one ranked player in the under-14 boys age group and the reigning county champion.

He has been selected to represent Hampshire and Isle of Wight at the under-14s County Cup team event.

The Aegon County Cup events give players the opportunity of representing their counties in a competitive team environment and the age groups range from under-nine through to adults.

In the qualifying events, 43 counties have been placed in regional groups and they will compete over one weekend at different venues in order to find a winning team for that group to progress to the finals.

For both the qualifying and finals, counties may nominate a minimum of four and a maximum of six players. Each team will play four singles and two doubles.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight team will travel to the Taunton Tennis Centre to take on the best players from Buckinghamshire, Avon, Cornwall and Wiltshire.

The winning teams from each venue then progress to the finals.

These take place at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, where eight teams will compete to be county champions.
