LIAM Hignett and Ryan Golesworthy won three Hampshire tennis titles between them at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight County Championships in Winchester.

Totally Tennis performance player Hignett won the under-16 boys’ singles title, while Golesworthy enjoyed a double success in the under-14 singles and doubles tournament.

Hignett had a bye in the first round of the under-16 event and then defeated James Blair. A quarter-final success over Noah Bradwell was followed by a semi-final win over Matthew Whitehead.

This set-up a final showdown against Zizheng Jin, which Hignett won 6-3, 6-2.

Club mates Miles Bromilow and Alex Dawson also played in the under-16 event, but both lost in the second round.

All three boys also competed in the under-18 boys singles. Hignett again had a bye in round one before beating Mats Colling in round two, Liam Seager in the last eight and booked his place in the final with a victory over Austin Gwilliam.

However, he had to settle for second place after losing to George Houghton in a third set tie-break.

Bromilow lost in the quarter-finals and Dawson went out in round two.

In the men’s event, Hignett finished a very respectable second losing in the final to Zander Woodford-Smith.

In the under-16s doubles, Highnett partnered Whitehead in the round robin event and Bromilow played with Dawson.

The Hignett/Whitehead combination finished runners-up to Gwilliam/Bradwell, while Bromilow/ Dawson were third.

In the under-18s event, Hignett played with former Totally Tennis player Goldsworthy and they finished third, losing to eventual winners Houghton and Seager in the semi-finals.

Before playing in the under-18 doubles with Hignett, Odiham’s Golesworthy did not lose a set on his way to the under-14 singles title.

He breezed past James Midgley and William Jones before winning a closer semi-final against Joseph Henbury.

In the final, Golesworthy showed patience to beat Cameron Clarke 6-1, 6-1, before teaming up with Clarke to win the doubles.

The Odiham player also enjoyed success at the Eastleigh Open, only losing one set on his way to victory.
