ROBERT May’s School have once again been crowned Hampshire Schools under-16 tennis doubles champions.

Ryan Golesworthy retained his title, teaming up with Daniel Nightingale on this occasion, having been successful 12 months ago with another partner, Charlie Flynn.

The event was played at the Totton and Eling Tennis Centre and there were 16 pairs in the boys event.

Odiham’s Golesworthy and Nightingale won the final 6-2, beating Joshua Hosier and Tom Shipton from Ballard School in New Milton.

To reach the final they came through a round-robin competition and semi-finals.

In The girls’ event, which included seven pairs, ended up with an all St Swithun’s final as Zoe Upcraft and Emily Wickham defeated Alicia Morris and Bella Monkton 6-1.

The Robert May’s pairing of Helena Mason and Chloe Tarling reached the semi-finals, with Aaron Waters and Andrew Grant winning the boys plate competition.

Matthew Grigg, Head of PE at Robert May's School said: “I was really proud of how all the students performed. There was a high standard of play shown by all those involved.”

Golesworthy has been sidelined for most of the summer due to an injury picked up playing football.

He did win the Winchester Babolat Open under-14 doubles title with Ben Smith earlier this month.

The pair won the final in straight sets, beating Giacomo Revelli and Jack Pinnington-Jones 4-1, 5-3.

This was after they beat Joseph Henbury and Cameron Clarke 4-0, 4-2 in the semi-finals and enjoyed success in the last eight over Sam Gandee Morgan and Henry Gwilliam (4-1, 4-2).
