DEAN Cooper-Kirby from Little London won the 10 and under Hampshire County Closed crown at Winchester Tennis Club.

Second seed Cooper-Kirby received a bye in the first round of matches.

The 10-year-old, who trains at Portsmouth Tennis Academy, cruised into the semi-finals thanks to a 4-0, 4-0 victory over Andrew Penney.

The Priory School pupil, pictured, then saw off Patrick Oatley 4-1, 4-2, to book his place in the final.

This set up a showdown against fellow Priory School pupil Daniel Prickett.

It proved to be a real battle, with Cooper-Kirby winning the first set 4-2 before Prickett levelled the match by taking the second set 4-1.

A 10-point tie break followed with Cooper-Kirby saving two match points on his way to winning the deciding set 11-9 and becoming the county champion.

The Little London player also entered the 12-and-under county tournament.

Cooper-Kirby’s first round match saw him beat Ollie Brown, 6-1, 6-1. He then knocked out second seed Rory Penrose with another 6-1, 6-1 success. This set-up a quarter-final game with sixth seed Hugh Wilkinson and he took another scalp with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

In the final-four game he came up against fourth seed Sam Gandee Morgan and won the first set 6-3, but lost the next 6-0.

Cooper-Kirby found his feet and led 6-2 in the deciding tie-break, but Gandee Morgan hit back to win 10-6.

On the same day, the Little London player also took part in the 12-and-under boys’ doubles tournament with George Russell and together they won the county title.

Cooper-Kirby is now one of a small group of players who have won all of the single mini tennis county championships titles at under-eight, nine and 10 as well as under-nine, 10 and 12 doubles crowns.
