YOUNG Basingstoke tennis ace Esther Adeshina maintained her 100 per cent record in the 12 and Under Girls Winter National Tour Grade 2 series with victory in the second event at the Sunderland Tennis Centre.

Adeshina – top seed for the tournament of 32 players – had a shaky start, losing the first set in her opening game against Annali Olivelli from Essex.

The Basingstoke player stormed back to win the match 2-6 6-1 10-5 and then cruised through round two thanks to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lancashire’s Alexis Peet.

Straight sets wins followed in the next two games as Adeshina defeated Bedfordshire’s Olivia Elliot and Mae McCutcheon from Warwickshire 6-4 6-2 and 6-2 6-3 respectively.

This left the Basingstoke youngster to face third seed Essence Martins from Middlesex in the final – and she won 6-3 6-1.

Following her success in the 12s age group, Adeshina moved up an age bracket to the 14 and under National Grade 2 at the Bolton Arena.

The 12-year-old defeated Anna Loughlan from Cambridgeshire in the first round in a game which lasted over two hours.

Adeshina won the third set tie-breaker 7-3 to win the match 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.

The victory set up a clash against the number one seed Holly Thompson, who was forced to retire after losing the first set 6-4.

The Basingstoke player was then knocked out in the quarter-finals by Lancashire’s Olivia Peet 6-2, 7-5, but is looking forward to playing more domestic and Tennis Europe 14 and under events.
