OLD Basing A’s mixed team opened up their defence of the Basingstoke and District Tennis League Division One title with two impressive 6-2 wins.
They beat Beechdown A and Goodworth Clatford A, where Rob Still/Sandie Benham got a maximum.
The Beechdown team of Simon Wood/Tina Wood and Alex Piper/Andrea Butcher recovered from their Old Basing loss with a comprehensive 8-0 success at Aldermaston.
A maximum from Lucy Battersby/Joe Robinson saw Overton A beat their own B team 6-2.
In Division Two, Hook A lost 6-2 at Odiham A, but a maximum from Ailsa Fraser/Graeme Mutch saw them win 7-1 against Oakley B.
Beechdown C and RSF B got off to winning starts in Division Three. Beechdown beat Kingsclere 7-1 and then Hook B 8-0 thanks to Emma Giddings/Darren Giddings and Clare Munns/Hoss Asfraf.
Meanwhile, RSF B saw off Hook B 7-1 and then their team of Steve Brown/Tracey Telford and Jon Corallo/Karen Holt won 8-0 over Preston Candover B.
The Kingsclere pairing of Alan Curtis/Linda O’Leary won all their sets in a 6-2 win against Odiham B.
Another team to open up with two straight wins was Aldermaston B in Division Four. They won 7-1 at Odiham C thanks to a maximum from Colin Bennett/Margaret Flemington and they then won 6-2 over new team Waverley.
Old Basing B won 8-0 at Sherborne thanks to their team of Roy Pike/Sue Wilcox and Tiffany Baraclough/Matthew Savastano.
A maximum by Waverley’s John McKay/ Kelsey Mosquera saw them draw with Old Basing, while Ray Wilson and Terri Allison won all their sets as Oakley C beat Old Basing 6-2.
Phil Banfield/Aly Coughlan were unbeaten in Beechdown D’s 7-1 win against Oakley C.
A maximum from Lesley Miotto/Tony Miotto saw Sherborne win a hard-fought match 5-3 over Mortimer B.
In Men’s Division One, Andover A beat Totally Tennis A 7-1 as Martin Isherwood/Hallam Donnie won all their sets.
Newly promoted Kintbury opened their account with an 8-0 win over Totally Tennis A thanks to Gerry Nikitopoulous/Mickey Puttick and Mark Grant/John Howell.
In Division Two, Preston Candover and Kingsclere fought out a draw, Beechdown A won 5-3 against Kingsclere and Old Basing A recorded the same score against RSF B after a maximum from Phil Dixon/Mark Fuller.
Old Basing B head Division Three after a maximum from Andrew Mountford/David Mountford helped them to a 7-1 victory over Oakley B 7-1, before a 5-3 success against Waverley A.
Andover B won at Beechdown B 5-3 and Waverley managed a draw at Winchester thanks to a maximum from Paul Byrne/Perveez Mirza.
In Division Four there were wins for Totally Tennis B, Hook, Odiham B and Oakley C.
The Totally Tennis team of Nick Dingwall/Stephen Price and Luke Pettican/Phil Emptage beat Waverley B 8-0, but then slipped up 5-3 to Oakley C.
Hook beat BDH 7-1 with Anthony Haffey/Simon King unbeaten and Odiham B recorded the same score against Oakley C, thanks to a Roger Barnacle/Claudio Nold maximum.
There are three new teams – Hampshire Court, Newbury and Worthy Park – in Division Five.
Hampshire Court beat Andover C 6-2 with Steve Halsey/Ashley Childs winning all their sets. Worthy Park drew with Beechdown C thanks to a maximum from Mark Godson/Nick Sellick, but Newbury lost 5-3 at Sherborne.
In Ladies’ Division One, last years runners-up, Beechdown A, beat Goodworth Clatford A 8-0 thanks to Clare Munns/ Andrea Butcher and Tina Wood/Emma Giddings, while champions Old Basing had a much closer match, winning 5-3 against Aldermaston.
In Division Two, Odiham won 6-2 at Beechdown B, with Sue Gilchrist/Veronica Pulleyn winning all their sets.
Jo Jones/Helen Townsend got another maximum for Mortimer in their draw with Winchester.
Newcomers Hampshire Court got off to a winning start in Division Three with a 7-1 success against Whitchurch, with Carol Grant/Jo Quick unbeaten.
