YOUNG tennis star Hannah Smith has been enjoying an excellent summer.
The nine-year-old from Silchester was part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight under-nine team who won the County Cup in Cardiff.
Smith, along with George Russell, Dean Cooper Kirby, Oscar Boyle, Rina Hayamizu and Anna Vinnell, took on Avon, Wiltshire, South Wales and Gloucestershire at the Virgin Active Racquets club in Cardiff.
Smith won all of her four singles matches and then teamed up with Russell to win three of their four mixed doubles matches.
The competition finished with a winner takes all clash that saw Hampshire beat Avon with a dramatic 5-4 victory.
Smith also enjoyed success in the Dukes Meadow Grade 3 regional competition, for under-nine girls, in London.
Smith won five matches to take the title, beating Maddie McLoughlin from Suffolk in the final.
The Silchester player, a pupil at Daneshill Prep School, then won the Winchester Babalot Open Grade 3 event in Winchester, beating Isabelle Purser from Berkshire in the final.
Then in the Bath Open National Grade 2 under-nine girls event, she finished third, defeating Chloe Elliott from Oxfordshire in the third and fourth-place play-off.
