ANDOVER completed the first leg of trying to defend all three top Basingstoke and District Tennis League titles when they took the Men’s Division One crown following convincing wins against Overton A (8-0) and nearest challengers Kingsclere A (7-1).

Kingsclere won their penultimate match with a 5-3 success against Overton A.

Tom Perkins and Simon James won all their sets for Beechdown A in their draw with RSF A, who followed up with a 5-3 win against Waverley A.

A maximum from Chris Pugh and Nick Baldwin gave Goodworth Clatford A their 5-3 win at Waverley A to move them out of the bottom three as the relegation battle goes down to the final games.

Division Two leaders Old Basing B dropped their first points of the season after a 5-3 loss to Oakley B, which meant that Aldermaston A’s 5-3 win at Andover B moved them up to the top spot, with Pete Hillman and Dave Bull being unbeaten.

Winchester snatched a good point in their draw at Preston Candover and Beechdown B’s team of Darren Giddings/Paul Ayres and Matt Moore/Phil Deed won 8-0 against Goodworth Clatford B.

The top-of-the-table battle in Division Three saw Totally Tennis A record a 7-1 win against leaders Waverley B.

Odiham A moved closer to Waverley after a 5-3 win at Mortimer A thanks to a maximum from Jeremy Hillage and Roger Barnacle.

Overton B also kept their promotion hopes alive with a 6-2 win against Goodworth Clatford C after Drew Robinson and Eric McCann won all their sets.

RSF B are already Division Four champions, but the five teams behind them are battling it out for the other promotion places.

Mortimer B had a great 6-2 win at second-placed Oakley C to move them up the table and Beechdown C, still with five matches to play, won 5-3 at Andover C.

The Mixed Division One title is Andover’s to lose, although they can still be caught by Old Basing A, who still have to play the leaders.

In their latest matches, Andover beat Aldermaston A 6-2 with a maximum for Hallam Doney and Claire Reid and Old Basing recorded the same score in their win at Beechdown A.

Oakley A look like taking the Division Two title although there are still some potential close matches to play.

Julie Frankland/Paul Rattue and Julie Greenslade/Kelvin Wilcox gave them an 8-0 win against their B team in their latest match.

They also had a much closer 5-3 result against Totally Tennis A. RSF A kept up their challenge with a 5-3 win against Oakley B.

Jo Jones and Ben Money won all their sets for Mortimer A in a 6-2 win at Preston Candover B.

Another pair to be unbeaten were Dave Burrell and Laura Glasscock for Oakley B in their draw with Preston Candover, who achieved their first point of the season.

Beechdown C have the formality of one further match in Division Three to complete before they take the title following another win, this time 7-1 at Sherborne, with Claire Munns/ Hoss Ashraf being unbeaten.

Alan Curtis/Kate Lockhart and Nigel Baker/Linda O’Leary made up the Kingsclere team who beat Oakley C 8-0.

Leaders RSF B were held to a draw in Division Four by Old Basing B but still hold a strong position.

Only the one match is left to be played in Ladies’ Division One and a win for Beechdown A against Oakley will give them the title from defending champions Andover A.

Karen McKenzie/Nikki Lines and Julia Redman/Jill Vaughan gave Aldermaston A an 8-0 win at Sherborne and a maximum from Ros Hursell and Sally Spencer for Goodworth Clatford A gave them a 6-2 win at Oakley.

Overton are still favourites to take the Division 2 title with one game left to play. Preston Candover A retained the runners-up spot after a 6-2 win against Hook and Odiham kept their hopes alive with a 5-3 win at Hook.

Totally Tennis A completed their fixtures with a draw at Goodworth Clatford.

With the top two teams in Division Three not playing, Aldermaston B had the opportunity to close the gap but they went down 5-3 at Totally Tennis B before coming back to win 8-0 against Whitchurch. Their team was Margaret Flemington/ Annette Beattie and Carol Huddlestone/Karen Bailey.
