WITH three of their teams gaining league honours, Basingstoke and Mid-Hants Athletics Club were the natural choice for the Club of the Year award.
The senior men's team are now in the top 24 in the UK after winning promotion to division two of the British Athletics League in 2007.
The women's team were also promoted to division one of the Southern League, while the vets carried off the Surrey and Hampshire League title.
Fittingly, the award was collected on behalf of the Down Grange club by Ian Byett, who was prevented by illness from receiving his own service to sport trophy 12 months ago.
The club life vice-president, who was filling in for chairman Peter Nicholson and secretary Chris Berry, who were not present, also collected the senior team award on behalf of the club's senior men's team.
He said: "I think that, as a team, 2007 was our best year to date, although there have been outstanding individual performances during our 60-year history."
In 2007, top performers Robert Tobin, Ben Hazell, Mark Berridge and Andy Blow all represented Basingstoke in top national and international events.
