ALL-ROUNDER Lewis Jones was delighted to be one of this year's winners.
Jones, who is 14 and lives in Pamber End, won the award after picking up five medals at the Norwich Union National Junior Games, which took place at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, in Buckinghamshire, last September.
The Brighton Hill Community College pupil dominated the swimming pool at the games, winning gold in the 25m and 50m freestyle events. He also picked up gold in table tennis and bowls, adding silver in zone hockey to complete his haul.
Jones suffers from brittle bones, which prevents him from taking part in contact sports, but he loves competing and was delighted to pick up the award.
"I am really pleased to have won," he said. "It came as a complete surprise. I really did not expect it and it caps off a good year for me."
Despite picking up medals in so many different events at the national junior games, Jones' best sport is bowls. He is a member of Loddon Vale Indoor Bowls Club and has attained a high national ranking among able-bodied players.
"This year, I plan to mainly focus on bowls and will be looking to reach the national finals," he said.
