| Cyril Thompson receives the Service to Sport award |
CYRIL Thompson's 57 years of service to the world of cricket was honoured when he picked up the Service to Sport award.
The 77-year-old has been scorer and organiser of the Guy Jewell Cup for more than half a century.
He immediately dedicated his award to his late wife Rita Thompson, who sadly passed away 18 months ago.
The winner said: "Without Rita, I would not have won this award. She helped me for more than 50 years with the Guy Jewell Cup, so this award is for both of us."
Thompson was the scorer in the first-ever final back in 1952, at May's Bounty, a role he performed for the next 19 years, before taking over as organiser for the following 37, with Rita by his side.
