LONDON Irish recorded their first Premiership win of the season as they beat Northampton Saints 25-23, thanks to a late penalty try.

The result saw them move off the bottom of the table, after Newcastle lost at Leicester.

First-half tries from Luke Narraway and Sean Maitland gave the Exiles a 15-8 lead at the interval, with Ken Pisi scoring for the visitors.

After the break, George North and Kahn Fotuali'i tries gave the Saints a five-point lead.

But Irish stole victory as following a scrum, referee Ian Tempest punished the Northampton pack for pulling the drive down.

Shane Geraghty kicked the simple conversion and Stephen Myler had a late drop-goal attempt charged down in the dying seconds.

Irish will hope to make it two wins in a row when they travel to Gloucester on January 2.
