OVERTON moved to the top of Hampshire Two after a 21-13 win at fourth placed Alton.

The visitors started brightly and were soon on the board with a penalty, only for this to be cancelled out as Alton.

This was a wake-up call for Overton and tries for Ryan Cornell and Tristian Harper, while Alex Plows added a conversion and two penalties.

Alton continued to battle and were rewarded after the break with a try to make the final score 21-13.

The seconds played at home against Fareham Heathens in front of a good crowd as the club said goodbye to Mike Williams its first chairman who sadly passed away in July.

Both teams lined up in front of the club house as the crowd raised a toast to Mike. Overton and Fareham then played an entertaining game that saw Overton the victors 13-0.

All points were scored in the first half. Both packs were evenly matched but quick ball allowed scores for Overton at outside centre with teenagers Euan and Richard Smith both crossing over.

Both Overton teams now head their respective leagues with the firsts entertaining Fawley on Saturday at Laverstoke Park in a top of the table clash.

The seconds are on the road to United Services Portsmouth in what will prove a tough test.
