CHINEHAM opened their Hampshire Two campaign with a 15-0 win at Lymington Mariners.

Good early pressure from the visitors finally paid off as Kris Ford kicked over a penalty.

Lymington responded by making a couple of changes in their pack and using their hill to their advantage.

Chineham were placed under huge pressure as the Lymington fly half and full back pinned the opposition in their 22.

The scramble defence was once again an asset for Chineham. There were some colossal tackles in defence with Grant Fisher, Matt Lingham and Jonty Moody all being responsible for making try-preventing tackles.

On the stroke of half-time Chineham finally regained possession with Lewis Buttle gaining essential yards and putting the away side into the last third of the pitch.

Once again Lymington gave away an unnecessary penalty in kicking range, however Ford was unable to convert.

After the break forwards Olly Wood, Luke Dyer and Lee Rudden all carried the ball well to gain precious yards and Ford missed another penalty.
However, Ford made up for his misfortune as he stole a kick over the top and went over for a try.

Lymington hit back, but Chineham extended their lead as Spencer Taylor gained the ball at the back of the ruck and crashed over to score and Ford added the conversion to make it 15-0.

Chineham’s man-of-the-match was awarded to David Minkin for his second half kicking display demonstrated great maturity keeping Lymington trapped in their own 22.

This weekend, Chineham are at home to week one leaders Aldershot and Fleet.

Newly promoted Overton had a tricky start in their opening game of Hampshire One. They were cut down with three well worked tries by the visitors Andover in the first-half at Laverstoke Park.

Overton were continually hampered by poor execution in the final third and finished the first period 17 points adrift. At the start of the second-half Overton’s defence was solid and flanker Tristan Harper intercepted a telegraphed pass by Andover and Tom Barrington scored for the home side

However, two more tries by Andover soon after secured the bonus point win but not before Simon Rainbow capitalised on a perfectly executed move by the backs after a solid scrum by the forwards.

Alex Plows slotted the conversion with a beautiful drop goal from the touch line as Overton lost 29-12.

Tomorrow, they are away at Alton who won their opening game of the season narrowly against the Isle of Wight.

In the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier Tadley opened with a 30-20 win at Littlemore and are home this weekend to Chesham who were beaten in week one.

In the Championship, Aldermaston started with a 34-15 win over Winslow, while Kingsclere had a day to forget going down 72-3.

Tomorrow, Aldermaston are at Abingdon, while Kingsclere entertain Faringdon.
