Tadley ready for cup final
TADLEY rugby club have their biggest game of the season when they host the Berkshire Cup final against visiting Redingensians on Sunday (2.15pm).
The home side, who have suffered relegation from South West division two, start as underdogs for the game against their division one mid-table rivals.
The Pump Technology-sponsored team made it into the final last Saturday, after Windsor decided not to travel to Red Lane for a semi-final match-up.
Redingensians booked their place with a 20-5 victory over Bracknell, the side that beat visiting Tadley in last year's final 36-18.
Tadley will be keen to get their hands back on the trophy they last won in 2000 when they beat Newbury, which saw them regain the cup, having won it in 1990 against Reading.
Before the cup final on Sunday, Tadley are in league action tomorrow at Henley Wanderers.
One of the club's joint coaches, Mark Vatcher, said: "After a disappointing league campaign, where we take on fellow strugglers Henley Wanderers on Saturday, who need to win to maintain their league position, we are keen to take something from this season and the Berkshire Cup gives us that opportunity, albeit as underdogs against Redingensians."
He added: "We have a very different-looking side to the one that lost to Bracknell in last year's final.
"We aim to go one better this year, and use the game as a launch pad for next season's preparations, where we will be looking to expand our squad and challenge for promotion once again."
