BASINGSTOKE RFC were relegated from London division one after losing 47-0 to Shelford at Down Grange on Saturday.
The visitors were completely dominant in the first period, scoring five tries to lead 35-0 at half-time. Basingstoke improved after the break but conceded a further two tries before Neil Young crossed the line for a late consolation effort.
The result, coupled with Bishop's Stortford's victory over Old Albanians, means that it is now mathematically impossible for 'Stoke to avoid the drop.
