THE director of marketing for Basingstoke Town Football Club has resigned.

Simon Hood posted on Twitter today that he quit the executive board last week, adding: "It was a difficult decision as I have grown fond of the club. I expect more to come out as to why in the near future."

Mr Hood was appointed as head of marketing last year, before being invited to join the board as one of the country's youngest football directors.

Posting on Twitter, Mr Hood said: "I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support - from the supporters to Jason. I have enjoyed the last 15 months and hopefully left a legacy that the club will build upon.

"Not just the town but the world now knows who BTFC are. It's not the chairman, or board that make the club, it's the supporters and volunteers. Your influence is greater than you realise."

Mr Hood played a key role in creating a partnership between the club and Sky television's Soccer AM, which included renaming the stadium.

In his Twitter post, Mr Hood urged people to support the club, adding: "If your life allows, step up and help your club, it makes such a difference."

He added: "I will still be working with the club in some capacity, but will be looking to grow my foothold within the football industry through a new enterprise."
