BASINGSTOKE RFC pushed home side Sutton and Epsom all the way, as they narrowly lost 23-19 in London One South.
The victory was a club record ninth win on the trot for the Surrey, while the visitors can take heart from taking the losing bonus point against a side second in the table.
The result keeps Basingstoke one from bottom in London One South, after bottom side Cobham edged out fellow strugglers Hove 17-16, who now are the new basement dwellers.
The tough games are coming thick and fast for the ’Stoke at the moment, as next up is a home game on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) against leaders Wimbledon, winners 37-33 over mid-table Brighton this weekend.
