STUDENTS at a north Hampshire college enjoyed a special visit from three professional rugby players this month.

England Rugby sevens players Sam Edgerley, Callum Wilson and Jack Walsh visited Lord Wandsworth College to coach under-15s, under-14s and junior boys at the school.

The players are currently injured and have missed the QBE international tour to Australia.

Despite the rain, students relished the opportunity to be out on the field training with the three professional players, focusing on defence, rucking over the ball and working as a team.

Following the physical part of the session, a lively and engaging Q&A session was held where the players encouraged students to work hard at their academic careers and not focus solely on rugby.

Soma Singh, director of sport at Lord Wandsworth College, said: “These sessions have been received well by both the boys and the coaching staff and we hope to continue with them over the rugby season whenever possible.

“The boys were really inspired by Sam, Callum and Jack and enjoyed the hands-on coaching session.

“They came away with lots of good tips and advice which we look forward to incorporating into our game.”
