SILCHESTER performance tennis player Hannah Smith has won the Girls 10 and under National Tour final held at the West Hants Tennis Centre in Bournemouth.

The tour final is the culmination of six national events held throughout the season across the country including Nottingham, Glasgow, Bath, Southampton, Sheffield and Queenswood in Hertfordshire.

The top 16 girls from this series qualified for the final, held in Bournemouth.

The 10-year-old eased her way through the first two knock-out rounds, winning in straight sets 4-0, 4- 0 against both Lara Bakhaya from Surrey and then Ananya Vartak from Essex, both 4-0, 4-0.

In the semi-final Hannah faced the number two seed Isabelle Eaton from Suffolk. The Hampshire player took an early 3-1 lead in the first set only for Eaton to level things, before Smith eventually ran out the winner 5-3, 4-0.

The final saw the number one seed Andrea Pineda from Middlesex, who had been undefeated all season in the 10 and under category, take to the court.

Being broken to love in her first service game, Smith realised this was going to be a tough battle.

However, the Hampshire player broke back in the second game and then Smith’s attacking style of play took the match to Pineda, and she served out the first set winning 4-2.

The second set saw the Silchester player unleash some of her best ever tennis taking the second set 4-0 and the national title in the process.

Earlier in the week, all 16 girls also competed in a doubles competition. By coincidence Smith was paired with Pineda, and the pairing took the national doubles title, beating Jhonayah Fletchman and Isabella Lloyd in the final 4-0.

The National Tour final topped off a fantastic season for the Silchester, who has won 82 per cent of all her matches over the season and included two tournaments wins in Germany at Babolat Open in Manching and Sport Scheck Schuelertunier in Munich.
