BASINGSTOKE RFC will look to maintain their perfect start to their London One South campaign, when they travel to Guildford on Saturday.

Both sides left it late to claim opening day victories with ‘Stoke scoring a try in the final minute to beat Dover 33- 29.

Newly promoted Guildford also won in the final minutes at Sutton and Epsom 26-24.

Basingstoke RFC’s head coach Will Croker admitted his side had found it hard to stop Dover’s direct approach.

Croker said: “We had two pre-season games against sides who played attractive rugby and then found ourselves up against a side who wanted to pick and go.

“We will be training this week to combat this, but are expecting Guildford to play an attractive style.”

He added: “Having won our first game, we want to keep ourselves at the right end of the table and it was very much a character win against Dover.”

“This is certainly something we can build on going forward.”

’Stoke will be forced to make changes to their line-up for the trip to Guildford, as Ollie John and Tim Richards are unavailable, but back into the squad come Gavin Dampies and Matt Guilfoyle.

Captain Freddie Gleadowe is expected to once again miss out, but has targeted ‘Stoke’s next home game a week on Saturday as a possible return.
