LONDON Irish suffered their first defeat of their pre-season campaign, as they lost 17-5 to Munster at Waterford.
The Exiles fielded a much changed side from the team that narrowly defeated Bristol at Hazelwood last Friday evening with David Paice and Halani Aulika the only survivors from the starting line-up.
Munster took the lead just before half-time, thanks to a try from winger Ronan O’Mahoney, which Johnny Holland converted.
Irish hit back with their own score thanks to Alex Lewington, who finished well in the corner and with Myles Dorrian unable to add the conversion, the score at the break was 7-5.
It was Munster’s replacement scrum-half Duncan Williams, who went over for the next try and Holland added the extras. The same kicker made sure of the win with a late penalty.
The Exiles open their Premiership campaign on Saturday, when they are part of the London Double Header at Twickenham and face local rivals Harlequins.
