BASINGSTOKE RFC’s under-16s overcame a feisty, well-drilled New Milton side to record a 19-7 victory.
Playing against the wind and pinned in their half, visiting ’Stoke defended well for long periods of the first half.
The visitors opened the scoring when Guy Black ran from the halfway line and scored under the posts. Matt Kouris added the extras as he kicked into a strong wind.
After more New Milton pressure was absorbed, ’Stoke added a second try on the counter-attack, as Isaac Curtis-Harris fended-off several tacklers.
Kouris once again converted for a 14-0 lead.
The home side reduced the deficit with a converted try before the end of the first half.
After the break, it was New Milton’s turn to defend, but they leaked a further unconverted try as Curtis-Harris ran in from the 22 metre line.
