Basingstoke RFC aim to build on first win of the season
BASINGSTOKE RFC will be looking to build on their excellent victory at Guernsey last weekend when they entertain basement side Thurrock this Saturday.
They are hoping for a bumper crowd for the game as ’Stoke look to move up further in the National League Three London standings.
The home side will be boosted by the return from injury of second row Andy Hore and number 8 Matt Horne which can only strengthen the squad.
Basingstoke coach Will Croker said: “The guys gave everything in Guernsey and winning as we did with two late scores has given us a great lift.
“The victory also proved we belong in this division and, after a really tough start, we are now looking to pick up some points.”
’Stoke now have a run of three home games out of their next four fixtures and Croker added: “We would hope to get 15 points from these home games, which is going to move us up to mid-table. In the long term we want to get into the top six.”
Saturday’s visitors Thurrock have yet to register a point this season and last weekend lost 37-21 at Westcombe Park.
The game on Saturday has a 3pm kick-off at Down Grange, but the club are looking to make it a family day, with a bouncy castle, barbecue and a kids’ zone inside the clubhouse from 1pm.
