WINCHESTER City brought an end to their run of defeats with a 2-1 win over Laverstock & Ford on Tuesday night.

The victory at the Denplan City Ground ensured City climbed two places in the league table to second.

And it was the response manager Guy Butters would have wanted after two defeats on the bounce, the most recent being Saturday’s against league rivals Hamble ASSC in the FA Vase.

City edged ahead on 20 minutes when Nathan Lynch acrobatically volleyed TJ McClory-Cuthbertson’s cross into the top corner.

On 35 minutes it was 2-0, Conor McCarthy crossing for Craig Richards to head home.

Laverstock set up a nervy finale when they pulled a goal back with five minutes left but City held on.
