Shahid Afridi’s next match will be Hampshire’s first Champions League qualifier after Pakistan lost their World Twenty20 semi-final against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Having taken 1-28 from his four overs, Afridi was bowled first ball by former Hampshire star Rangana Herath (3-25) as Pakistan were beaten by 16 runs.

Sri Lanka made 139-4 before restricting Pakistan to 123-7. Afridi will now travel to South Africa to join his Hampshire teammates as they prepare for their first game against Auckland Aces at Supersport Park, Centurion, on Wednesday.

The Royals’ other overseas star, former South Wilts all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, will be playing for Australia in the second semi-final against West Indies tomorrow.

Not sure I am as excited about him playing for us as I used to be. Maybe he has had his day?
