HAMPSHIRE clinched a second successive Royal London One-Day Cup victory against Surrey at The Ageas Bowl tonight.

Mason Crane’s 3-45 helped limit Surrey to 262-7 from a rain-reduced 44 overs before Rilee Rossouw’s brilliant 90 and Joe Weatherley’s unbeaten 46 set up Hampshire’s second win in three days ahead of tomorrow’s visit from Essex.

More rain gave Hampshire a revised target of 227 in 34 overs.

Despite a mid-innings wobble, they got there with four wickets and seven balls to spare.

With a point to prove after his two-ball duck at Sussex on Sunday, Rossouw shared an opening stand of 52 with his former South Africa teammate Hashim Amla (28), who was out to a poor decision.

Rossouw cruised through the gears after Amla’s exit, making his highest score for the county since his record-breaking 156 in the same competition at Somerset last year.

The left-hander was particularly brutal on the leg side.

Sam Curran was whipped for six over square-leg and Rikki Clarke conceded Rossouw’s other maximum in the next over.

Rossouw also hit 11 fours and shared 63 in less than seven overs with Vince before Hampshire’s captain was bowled by Gareth Batty after making room to drive through the off side.

Rossouw looked set for his second Hampshire ton but was bowled by a slower ball during a brilliant Clarke spell.

Surrey fought back with three more quick wickets.

Jimmy Adams skied a back-of-the-hand slower ball from Jade Dernbach, before Brad Taylor top edged Clarke to mid-wicket.

Gareth Berg was a relieved man when, after edging his first ball against Clarke, replays showed it dropped short of Foakes.

He hit the next delivery for four but was then bowled by another Clarke slower ball as Hampshire slipped to 191-6, needing 36 from 37 balls.

Weatherley and Lewis McManus responded with a partnership that highlighted their growing maturity.

With the required rate increasing, McManus broke the tension with a cover-driven four and a pulled six in successive balls against Curran before Hampshire eased home.

Earlier, Crane shone with the ball in his first Ageas Bowl appearance of the season.

A diving catch at short extra cover by Jimmy Adams gave Gareth Berg the wicket of teenager Will Jack.

Dean Elgar (91) and Rory Burns put on 93 for the second wicket.

Elgar required treatment on 42 but battled on, reverse sweeping Crane with alacrity.

The partnership was broken with the first of two lbw dismissals for Crane. Rory Burns, so often a thorn in Hampshire’s side, was denied a half-century as he attempted to sweep.

Ollie Pope, a rising star, went in similar fashion to another full delivery in Crane’s next over.

Then Ben Foakes was dismissed a by Crane beauty.

It drifted into the right-hander and McManus executed the stumping when it spun sharply away, reducing Surrey to 153-4.

Five overs later, Sam Curran nicked a Fidel Edwards beauty to McManus.

The left-handed Elgar was denied a ton when he played on against Berg, who had switched to round the wicket.

Two balls later, with Surrey 198-6 after 37.1 overs, torrential rain forced the players to the pavilion.

When they returned, with 22 overs lost, Scott Borthwick responded with an unbeaten 46 from 37 balls.

He hooked Edwards for six during a stand of 46 in six overs with Clarke (22).

But it was not enough to deny Hampshire.
