Mason Crane celebrated his Test call-up with three wickets as Hampshire closed in on a quarter-final place by beating the Natwest T20 Blast south group leaders.

A few hours after being included in England’s squad to face the West Indies, Crane took 3-21 as Hampshire ended a run of three successive home defeats.

Captain James Vince’s unbeaten 60 eased Hampshire to a comfortable victory that keeps them on course for a quarter-final place ahead of tonight’s penultimate group game at Kent.

Glamorgan won the toss but struggled on a slow pitch, on which Western Storm were skittled for 70 earlier in the day.

Liam Dawson responded to his omission from England’s squad by bowling Aneurin Donald with the third ball of the match before claiming the scalp of danger man Colin Ingram, who holed out to long-on having hit Gareth Berg over the fence.

The visitors were restricted to 34-2 from their powerplay - and then Crane showed his class.

He bowled Nicholas Selman with a googly, then more deception lured Chris Cooke into a top edge to cover.

The first of debutant Calvin Dickinson’s two stumpings gave Crane the scalps of former South Africa Test star Jacques Rudolph.

Glamorgan could only manage 52-6 from their 12 overs against Hampshire’s spin triumvirate, who produced echoes of the county’s outstanding 2011 group campaign.

Crane and Dawson have replaced Imran Tahir and Danny Briggs, while Shahid Afridi was back to something like his best during his most economical return of the season Dickinson’s quick hands gave him the wicket of Craig Meschede and he would have had another but for a dropped return catch.

Andrew Salter’s career-best 37 at least helped Glamorgan to 16 from the final over and a total to bowl at.

Dickinson, South African-born but Isle of Wight-raised, departed in the first over of his debut innings, lbw to Ingram attempting a slog-sweep.

But Vince and Tom Alsop (28) entertained in a 68-run stand for the second wicket.

Alsop was caught at long-on but Vince continued to caress the ball through the gaps on his way to a 32-ball fifty, before Hampshire reached the target with 37 balls to spare.

Another win tonight and they will be almost there.
