HAMPSHIRE were given a taste of their own medicine by South Africa A at The Ageas Bowl.

A week after recovering from 30-3 to make a match-winning 515 against Warwickshire, Hampshire conceded a double century partnership after a good start with the ball.

Opening batsman Heino Kuhn made an unbeaten 200 as South Africa A recovered from 126-5 to post 370-7d.

The 33 year-old shared a sixth-wicket stand of 209 in 54 overs with Heinrich Klassen, who struck nine fours and three sixes in his 103 (172 balls) before nicking Asher Hart to wicketkeeper Calvin Dickinson.

Kuhn scored half his runs in boundaries, hitting 25 fours from 291 balls.

He reached his first century from 135 balls and the declaration was made when he hit his 290th for two, against Matt Salisbury, to reach the fourth double ton of his first-class career.

Kuhn batted for six-and-a-half hours and set the tone for a day South Africa A began on 18-2.

After helping to add 44, Rudi Second (8) was caught behind.

Kuhn put on a further 41 with Jason Smith (14) before his fourth-wicket partner became the first of Brad Taylor’s victims.

When Khaya Zondo was bowled by Taylor, the Proteas were in the mire.

But Kuhn and wicketkeeper-batsman Klassen batted together for more than three hours to put South Africa A in command.

Soon after Salisbury claimed his third victim, all caught behind by academy wicketkeeper Dickinson, Kuhn’s double century prompted the declaration.

The momentum stayed with South Africa A as fast bowler Dane Paterson (3-2-4-2) struck twice in three balls.

Paterson, 28, trapped left-hander Tom Alsop lbw for four and nightwatchman Mason Crane went for a two-ball duck before Ian Holland was sent in ahead of captain George Bailey.
