George Bailey is set to make his first appearance for Hampshire for four years alongside Kyle Abbott and Gareth Berg at Essex this weekend.

The former Australia limited-overs captain has arrived for the start of his second stint with the county – starting against Essex at Chelmsford in the One-Day Cup on Sunday.

Hampshire have also recalled Kyle Abbott and Gareth Berg following a side strain to Chris Wood in yesterday’s win at Kent in his first limited-overs appearance for two years.

With Fidel Edwards (hamstring) and Brad Wheal (side) also injured, Australian all-rounder Ian Holland keeps his place in the squad after impressing during his surprise debut at Canterbury.

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White said: “We’ve had our fair share of injuries so Ian got his chance, which he took.

“He started with a no-ball and the free hit went for four but he showed good character to come back and bowl well, as did all the bowlers to pull back what looked like being a very big score.”

Hampshire are also without Ryan Stevenson (back strain), but Bailey will play at Chelmsford after arriving last night.

He will be available until the end of the season, following his omission from Australia’s Champions Trophy squad.
