Mason Crane took the last wicket of South Australia's first innings on his Sheffield Shield debut.

Crane, New South Wales' first overseas player since Imran Khan, finished with 2-50 from 9.1 overs as the visitors were bowled out for 229 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

After taking 1-24 from five overs on day one, the leg-spinner finished with 1-26 from 4.1 overs on day two.

South Australia, 169-5 overnight, had added 60 when Crane, 20, had wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey (56) caught with the first ball of his tenth over.

He had been hit for three fours by No 10 Chadd Sayers, including two in succession.

After dropping a straightforward caught-and-bowled chance against Carey, he was hit for six over long-on as the left-hander reached fifty.

But Carey was soon caught by Nic Maddinson off Crane, as Tom Cooper had been, attempting another six.

NSW were 333-4 - a lead of 104 - at stumps.
